Curitiba: the Ecological Capital of Brazil

One of the most prosperous and organized cities in Brazil. Curitiba is also a world-wide example in urbanism solutions, education and environment.
Curitiba was founded in the 17th century as a gold-mining camp, became the capital of the State of Paraná in 1854 and grew rapidly after 1940. Its 1.8 million people are a synthesis of several cultures of immigrants that arrived in the city during the 19th century and early 20th century.
Curitiba has 26 parks of well-preserved environment, with rich and diversified fauna and flora. The city has a green area of 55m² for each resident and is known as the Ecological Capital of Brazil.
Situated on a plateau at an altitude of approximately 3000 feet (1.000m), in Southern Brazil, the average temperature during the Summer is 21°C, and during the Winter, 13°C ( but it does down to -5°C) .
